Red Cap Oranda Goldfish

The Red Cap Oranda is one of several varieties of Goldfish.

In China, their scales are revered as a sign from Buddha because legend has it that no matter how polluted the water was, they were always clean! These days there're worldwide due to controlled breeding programs.

The Appearance

The Redcap Oranda Goldfish is a white goldfish with a cherry red hood.

The Redcap Oranda is a species of fish that are primarily white except for their cherry red hoods, which make them look like they have on caps. They only have two dorsal fins or tail fins instead of four.

The wen (or the hood) is a fleshy growth on the dorsal surface of their head that covers about 10% of it and contains skin cells, fatty tissues, sebaceous glands, which produces an oily secretion to keep them moist.

The fish's hood begins forming at three months, but only really starts getting fully developed when they are two years or older. This creates enough protection for them to survive in colder waters and serve as camouflage from predators looking up into the water above.

The hood is subject to the build-up of debris, bacteria, and fungi due to its small folds, which provide many nooks for these organisms to form in.

Characteristics of the Red Cap Oranda Goldfish

Goldfish, with their lower tolerance for pollution, cannot withstand extremely cold temperatures. The Redcap Oranda Goldfish is a delicate breed that needs more attention than other Goldfish.

These fish are not suggested for beginners because they cannot tolerate pollution or debris in their tiny folds, so it's essential to keep them under the right conditions with plenty of space and clean water.

The Red Cap Oranda is a compatible social fish that does well with other bottom feeders.

Tankmates and Aggressiveness

Not all Goldfish are compatible with each other. If you want to have more than one type of fish in your tank, make sure they share the same temperature and don't compete for food or space.

Other Orandas, pearl scale fancy Goldfish, and the Ryukin Fancy Goldfish are all compatible with the Redcap Oranda and share similar habitual needs. The Redcap Oranda is not an aggressive fish and should be a great addition to the right tank.

The Diet of the Redcap Oranda

Redcap Oranda Goldfish are a great addition to any freshwater aquarium. Here we like to feed Hikari's Wheat Germ Goldfish food. We like this food because, outside the premium ingredients, it has an extra ingredient, wheat germ, which helps prevent bloat and/or swim bladder issues. This They can eat all types of fresh, frozen, or flake food and will love you for it by eating brine shrimp (either live or frozen), blood worms, daphnia & tubifex worms.

Final Words

One of the more delicate varieties, Redcap Oranda Goldfish, is perfect for aquarium enthusiasts with a lot of experience. These fish can't tolerate pollution and need cool water to survive. The hood is prone to infection from debris that settles in its folds and must be cleaned regularly.

The Redcap oranda goldfish has long been considered one of the most popular types around- but they're not recommended as beginner's pets because they have such low tolerance levels for things like pollutants.

FAQ

How do you take care of a red cap oranda goldfish?

Here are a few quick tips for taking care of these little bubbly creatures. First, get the appropriate tank size. A 10-gallon aquarium is too small due to how big this fish will get. Put them in a 29-gallon tank. Secondly, feed an excellent goldfish food with wheat germs in it. When Goldfish eat pellets off the surface, they also take in air, and then sometimes it gets trapped. When it does, wheat germ helps " burp" the fish. Lastly, do a 25% water change weekly for this fish. This helps ensure a clean and happy tank for you and your fishies!

How large do they grow?

These unique Goldfish can get up to 8 inches and live over ten years!

FAQ

"The fish I received do not look like the fish in thepicture. Why is this?"

-         We typically take photographs of one or two fish when we initially get them in. Since we have a large quantity of most of the various species of fish, it would be understandably impossible to provide a picture ofevery individual fish with a specific species. For some of our more rare orlarger fish, the picture listed may be the actual fish that you are receiving. If this is the case, it will be designated by ?WYSIWYG?, meaning ?what you see,is what you get?.

"What happens if my fish arrive dead?"

-         While this is a rare occurrence, it can and willhappen from time to time. Fish are live animals and we cannot ensure that everyone will arrive alive or remain alive. We do ask that if your fisharrives dead (DOA), submit a picture of the deceased fish that is in the bag.We will work quickly with you to resolve the problem. We will offer replacement fish for any losses, but do not offer refunds at this time. We will reship any replacement fish at the buyer's expense. If you put the fish in your tank and it dies or is not acting properly, please contact us,  with pictures, within 24 hours. We will again, do everything in our power to resolvethe issue and ensure that you have a great experience with these fish.

"What if I'm not home when the fish arrive?"

-         We will always provide you with a tracking number. While the fish are packaged to survive about 72+ hours within the shipping containers, we do ask that you make arrangements to arrive home to inspect your fish as soon as possible after they are delivered to your home. Itis always suggested to provide an area for the delivery person to place the boxthat is out of direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.

"What do I do with my fish once I've unpacked them?"

-         Like you would with any new fish, let the entire bag float in your tank for 15-30 minutes. This allows the temperature withinthe bag to adjust to the same as your tank and will reduce temperature shock onthe fish. After this time, you can add all of the fish and water that is in thebag into your tank. The products used within the water for shipping will notharm any existing fish within your tank and actually makes the transition foryour new fish a bit easier. After this, expect your new fish to take a few daysto become fully adjusted, this includes hiding, floating at the top, sinking tothe bottom, and not eating. After a few days, your new fish should be acting aswimming like they normally would. At this point, enjoy your aquarium!

"I want to return my new fish because x,y,z?"

-         Unfortunately, we are unable to accept returns. We do recommend contacting us via email with yourorder number and as much information as possible. We will try to assist you inresolving whatever the issue may be.
